~~~ Reagan City Park ~~~
In 1910, Tucker Royall, president of the Michaux Land Company, offered land to the City of Palestine for use as a public park to honor John Reagan. The Monument Committee selected this park as the location for the Reagan Monument.
This park is located on the corner of Park and Crockett Streets, in Palestine, Texas.
Entering the park from Park Street, you view the back side of the monument.
The view from park looking up the hill to the monument.
Sitting under the trees, you see this view of the Monument, looking to the east.
Many community organizations have contributed to this park, over the years.
In 1911, the John H. Reagan Monument was unveiled in a ceremony organized by the
John H. Reagan Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
In 1968, the area was restored and landscaped by the Dogwood Garden Club.
Today, the Texas Area Fund Foundation maintains this property.
(Sadly,there are some who have not learned how to respect other's property! These pictures taken Sept 26, 2009)
